Last night I attended the Mozart Festival concert held at the Mission in downtown SLO. AMBerland, the Firm I used to work for, sponsors this particular event every year - this was the 10th year AMBerland has sponsored it, in fact - and they always provide employees with tickets to the concert. I had put in for a ticket before being laid off, and the Firm was kind enough to let me keep it. At the time it was the least of my worries, and there were several times over the past few months I almost called to tell them to forget it and give the ticket to someone else, but in the end, I'm glad I kept it, and I'm happy I went.
I went over to SLO late in the afternoon and dined at the Mission Grill - Caesar salad and Rock Rabbit Sauvignon Blanc, for those of you who care. I managed to kill a couple hours sitting on the patio munching on my salad, sipping what is a particularly delicious wine, and enjoying the rather sultry evening. I also scribbled out a few pages of an upcoming DP fanfic I’ve been working on since last December. I know I should concentrate on the one I’ve already started posting on the BH and DPOF forums, but my OC, Danielle, just keeps screaming in my head, insisting I write her freakin’ story, and if I don’t get her freakin’ story out of my head, I swear to God I’ll go stark raving mad!!

Um, anyway, back to the concert. I was happy to see my Former Cube-Mate as well as the Spunky Blonde Chick, and a few other familiar faces, but disappointed to not see others. They were either tucked away in the back corner, or chose not to attend this one. *shrug* Anyway, the concert itself was fantastic! By far, I think, my very favourite concert of all the ones I’ve attended! The musical selections included Viola Quintet in G minor, K. 516 (1787) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Octet in F major, D. 803 (1824) by Franz Schubert. In the past there have been full orchestras and choirs, and while those are all great and wonderful, these selections were smaller, more intimate, and seemed, in my opinion, to fit in better with the small, modest interior of the Mission. I really enjoyed watching the musicians getting into the music! They’re so passionate about it; they get completely lost in it. It must be an awesome feeling.
And finally, I think I fell in love with Franz Schubert last night. I’ve always liked Mozart’s stuff, but the Schubert piece really impressed me. Gonna have to get that on CD, methinks.
