weekend update

also posted at this little life of mine.

As I mentioned earlier, my friend DeeDee came over to visit this weekend, and the two of us had a blast! Friday night I met her at Blue after work, and we sampled several martinis (I had the Jade Mojito Martini which was kinda meh, the Blue Fin Martini which was good, though the gummy shark floating upside down in the middle of my drink was kinda gross, and the Metropolitan Martini which was delicious, and by far my favourite; DeeDee tried the Candy Apple Martini, the Island Iced-tini, which reminded both of us of Hawaii, and another one I can't remember the name of, but it was red.).

We also met an overly friendly, incredibly drunk (or totally crazy) woman who I hope was too drunk (or nuts) to remember our names or where we're from. Seriously, this woman was scary! To me, anyway), but DeeDee was more than happy to chat with her for longer than was necessary or comfortable.

Finally (and thankfully) we left Blue and DeeDee's crazy new friend, and wandered around downtown SLO. We stopped by Firestone Grill to use the restrooms, but decided not to try to stay and eat, as the line was out the door and almost to the sidewalk! We headed instead to Mother's Tavern for a few more drinks (I downed a plain jane Cosmo then had two glasses of chardonnay; DeeDee had a margarita) and a plate of Big Mutha Nachos. Yum!

There was another drunk/crazy person who wanted to chat DeeDee up, but luckily he didn't stay long. *sigh* Call me bitchy and rude, but I'm just not a big fan of perfect strangers butting into conversations I'm having with my friends, even if that conversation is taking place in a bar! Gah! Anyway, after all the eating and drinking was done, we came home and called it a night. It had been a long day for both of us - DeeDee travelling by plane and car from Oregon with her daughter and three-month-old grandson, and me just completing a long day at the end of a long week - and, well, we're not getting any younger!

Saturday, we rose fairly early and had coffee and bagels before DeeDee headed out to visit some of her other friends and family and to show off the adorable grandson. Mom and I quickly went and got our groceries, then I just hung out at the house waiting for Dee to come pick me up. When she arrived, and after she dropped off her daughter and a rather cranky baby, we headed off to Avila Beach for some sightseeing and dinner. The clouds were starting to come in, and the sun was already setting when we arrived, but I did get a couple good shots of the ocean and Avila Pier:

We had dinner at Custom House where we had some more - yes more - martinis (DeeDee had a Chocolate Martini, a Mint Chocolate Chip Martini, and a Rainbow Sherbert Martini; I had a Lemon Drop Martini then switched to Zinfandel), and an absolutely fabulous dinner! We started with clam chowder, then DeeDee had a beautiful hunk of grilled salmon while I went with the prime rib. OMG! So, so good.

Oh! It was all so good! I was SO full! It was SO delicious!

It had started to sprinkle a bit after we left the restaurant, so rather than go for a walk out on the pier, we just headed home. A couple of DeeDee's friends from church live just up the street from me, so when we got home we ran up and visited with them for a little while. By the time we got home it was after 10. We watched a little bit of Dirt which I'd never really watched and don't think I'll start now. We were both starting to fall asleep, so we surrendered and headed for bed.

Today DeeDee was going to visit more friends and then spend the night with some of them, so we said our farewells early this morning. I cleaned up a bit, had some coffee, then went up to my grandparent's house to pick up my mom (she graciously volunteered to stay with them while Dee was visiting), and we've been relaxing ever since. The Super Bowl just started. I don't really care so much, but like many people, I'm curious to watch the ads!

Which, by the way, that Audi ad was awesome!

Go Giants! Kick Pasty Rats ass!

for what it's worth . . .
